Matt Carroll as part of Central Station held their first exhibition ‘Hello Playmates’ at the Manchester Art Gallery in 1990. The V&A purchased four paintings for their permanent collection of modern art. Central Station is credited with creating some of the most iconic and best album cover art of all time with their work for Happy Mondays, Black Grape, James and Factory Records. Tony Wilson said “The second half of the factory story is best summed up by the painterly eccentricity of Central Station”. Their artworks have been exhibited around the world with shows in New York, London and Sydney, with art work also included in Communicate – ‘the Best Independent British Graphic Design since the Sixties’. Focusing on the most creative, innovative and highly regarded design work over the past four decades. The exhibition toured major cities across China and the Far East, finally showing at the Museum of Design Zurich.
